We left Houston on vacation and got as far as Lake Charles before an identity thief drained our bank account. Not much could be done with the bank on a holiday weekend from hundreds of miles away and we weren't going to cancel our vacation, so we called Ace's 800# to get some funds quickly and keep going. They took the application over the phone and told us to head to an Ace back across the state line in TX to collect our funds. It took extra time to verify our income because we are self-employed, and we understood that, so we found a campground near this store and waited. 13 hours later, we called and they suggested that we cancel the application, then apply in person at the store where the verification could be done quickly, and in person. Dianna, the clerk at the store, lied and lied and lied to us, contradicting the corporate staff we had been dealing with multiple times. When we pointed out her "errors" she doubled-down and lied again to cover the lies. Documentation that the call center had assured us was sufficient suddenly wasn't good enough for her, so we had to drive our motorhome to the public library and spend some of what precious little money was left printing off documents for her. She disqualified 40% of our income that was fine for anyone else and fine for our mortgage and car loans. She demanded a blood relative reference from my wife. My wife doesn't have any living relatives. This woman did NOT need everything she was asking for. The people at the 800# had not demanded such minutia, and she had not hassled the person in line in front of us nearly as much. The simple, obvious, unpleasant fact is that the person in line ahead of us had the same skin color (and gender) as her, but we did not. She was shrinking our loan any way she could, while boosting her commission by making it a payday loan instead of an installment loan. When I pointed out that she had made it a payday loan with double the interest, she lied *AGAIN* and told us it was an installment loan, despite the paperwork she had just handed us stating the contrary. THEN she actually had the audacity to call my wife a liar about having no living relatives. Can you imagine the nerve of being told you are lying only months after burying your parents? If you want to do business with Ace, find another location or use the online application. Do not give this haughty, uppity, lying, bigoted, self-important, sleazy broad the chance to take advantage of you.
