Alaska USA Federal Credit Union's Reviews
This branch is awesome. The manager is sweet as can be, and is always so helpful and intuitive. Once I was going on vacation, told the manager I was going tomorrow just because I usually chat a bit more there than on would on the usual bank visit, and she asked me if I wanted her put a travel notice on my account, so I didn't get flagged. I'm on a first name basis there these days, too, which tells me they all care. Also, this bank is pretty much always open, even on several holidays, which is really nice, even though I think they deserve some of the "bank holidays" here and there. :)
5 stars for being open 7 days a week! I don't bank with them but I do with a sister credit union so I'm able to go to Alaska CU for deposits & take out money etc. The employees are nice and helpful as well!
Great customer service!
I truly do feel rotten writing this, as the staff there are very sweet and kind folks but it's a situation that we seem to be at loggerheads over that's got me pretty upset. A couple of weeks ago I went in to make a deposit; I normally bank with a CU in another state, one that's outside of their network so when I need to make a significant deposit into AK USA FCU, I must first get cash back on a purchase (like a pack of gum or some necessary groceries) in the maximum amount ($300) and that costs me $3. Then I have to go to their ATM and pull $400 (with a $3 surcharge, since I'm not "in network"). I could do it other ways but in the name of convenience, I just grin and bare it and eat the $6 it costs me. Except their ATM, the one that says "Alaska USA FCU" right on the top, ate $20 of mine and they seem to be confused as to how to handle this discrepancy. They told me I have to "fill out a form with my bank" and dispute the withdrawal or something to that effect. Basically they are putting the onus for their equipment failure into MY hands and MY CU. So two weeks later (last night, 4/18/19) I go in to take care of some business and that $20 popped back into my mind and the woman who opened my account (Tessa) was there, very friendly and kind, always remembers my name... I asked her what could we do about it and I got pretty much a non-answer as I was walking away. So I turned on my heel and began pressing the matter and again, I got the whole "contact your lending institution for a solution"... I made a remark about this getting "kicked down the road, swept under the rug, etc..." and left with two people staring blankly at me. So I go home and somewhat miffed, I write a post on their FB wall detailing my experience. Instead of contacting me via PM or phone or email, they reply in a comment to my post, as if to save a bit of face regarding the fact that I've taken this "to the streets". So, they pretty much refused to refund the $20 that their ATM didn't dispense, and I'm going in to close down both my accounts. Cause/effect. And I'm a new customer, not even three months. Hey, better to learn early, right?
A great branch!
