CheckSmart's Reviews
Friendly staff politely answered my many questions concerning a money order with patience
Polite in their greeting, hence the one star. After that rude cold and impersonal. What was explained to me over the phone was different than what was explained in store and in person.
The lady's that work here are so friendly.
I paid my loan of $576.23 ($500 loan) off within 10 days of borrowing. I had 2 months to pay it off per my assumption of the conversation I had with the rep at the window. I didn't make it there to pay on the 7th day, so they called and said I had defaulted, and the full amount was due NOW. This was not my understanding of the contract. But, I went in and paid the full amount due (plus 2.25% to use my bank card) on 11/21/17 totaling $590.01. On 11/22, they posted an automatic withdrawal for ANOTHER $576.23. This withdrawal cleared on 11/23, which was the day before thanksgiving by the way. When I called them on 11/22 after I noticed another withdrawal from Checksmart posted due to my account being negative, they THEN said that they had no way of knowing when the ACH deduction would happen. (So, she shouldn't have told me to come in right away to pay). And, that I would have to come in and fill some forms out to get my money back. But, the next day they would be open is Black Friday. My bank also said that they would pursue the return. I'm in the process of getting my money back, but they STOLE $576.23 dollars from me. This put me -$200 in the bank for Black Friday. The worst part is, they act like I am an inconvenience to them for wanting MY $576.23 back. I appreciate the services this company offers, even though the interest rates are too high for my taste. But when I paid the $590.01 on 11/21, it should have triggered the system to see that my loan had paid. But, it didn't. The full loan amount was automatically posted AGAIN the very next day, and withdrawn 2 days later. This prevented me from getting my 7 year old son's christmas present on black Friday. I ended up paying (for now) $1,166.24 on a $500 loan for 10 days. If anyone, or any other company were to do this to me or anyone else, it would be blatant theft.
