Lincoln's New Salem's Reviews
A perfect evening for the annual Candlelight Walk! All of the volunteers were so welcoming and helpful throughout the evening. Excellent narratives from the individuals dressed in period costumes located inside each cabin open for the night. The paths and cabins were illuminated with candles and each cabin had a cozy fire burning in the fireplace. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening. Highly encourage people to visit Lincoln's New Salem. A great place to take your family for an educational tour.
I've been visiting/volunteering at the site since I was a freshman in college. There's something magical about it. You've just stepped back in time. It's indescribably peaceful. Even on the busy festival weekends and special events like the annual candlelight walk.
One of my all time favorite places. This is true Americana. The aura and the spirit of pioneer times is present in the air, and it is a most peaceful place to be. 'Twas a joy to perform at the beautiful indoor amphitheater. I've always received a warm reception from the the people of this area. There is a down to earth mentality and a charm not commonly found in other places. If you're looking for quality photography subject matter, a stroll through New Salem State Park will provide you with plenty of opportunity. The original town was faithfully reconstructed from the recollections and assistance of original residents. There are even a few areas that are yet original (such as the Cooper Shop).
Awesome time in Lincoln’s New Salem. I enjoyed looking at all the buildings and seeing how it would of been living in the 1860’s. Very friendly staff with a lot of rich history!
Very enjoyable walk back in time. Authentic 1800's time capsule with historic information. Handicap accessible. Family friendly. Free admission. Two gift shops, museum, and picnic areas.
