FNCB Bank's Reviews
They have license to steal!
I had been with FNCB for over 3 years. My balance in all accounts was rarely less than $20,000 and I never bounced any checks nor did I ever overdraw my account. The people were nice to me, the managers I met were nice to me as well. They shook my hand and told me 'Thank you for your service' when I showed up wearing my army cap. Early in 2015 my brother was diagnosed with cancer. He was under-insured and needed help paying his bills. He reluctantly accepted our help and we did what we could to sustain him financially, but eventually the burden was too much for us to bear and we could no longer help him. We had run our accounts dry at FNCB and whereas I never used to have to be careful with overdrawing any of my accounts, suddenly there was no money, and we bounced our rent check (I overdrew the account by $400+). The following day I lost my job. We were in dire straits and didn't know what we would do. FNCB called us to ask us about the overdrawn account and I explained to them all that had happened, and that we were enduring a really rough stretch, but they didn't want to hear any of that and threatened that my account would be sent to a collection agency if I didn't begin paying them back immediately. I was referred to Mike Germano out of the Dunmore office to determine what I would have to do to avoid my account being sent to a collections agency (which would happen after 20 more business days, according to him). I told him that I could make a small deposit that week (in December) and another in January, and that in February I would be able to square up when I received my tax return. He said 'okay, just make sure you make those deposits'. That Friday I made the deposit and I thought everything was fine. Two weeks later I get a call from a collection agency on behalf of FNCB. Mr. Germano apparently, for whatever reason, charged off my account and sent it to collections the day before I told him I was making the deposit. I called to ask him what happened and he brushed me off saying he had no choice. A consolidation loan that I had applied for around that time was turned down as a result of his decision, putting us in further trouble. I always answered their calls when they called about the account. I never tried to duck anyone as that's not my style. I like to handle things like adults and I expect others to do likewise. I spoke to them nicely at all times and asked them for their help. I wasn't used to being the one who asked for help, but I had no choice. We came to an agreement. I kept my half of the agreement, but apparently Mr. Germano had no intentions of ever not sending the account to collections. I just don't understand it. I was brought up with certain values. To be fair, to be considerate, and to be compassionate when a situation calls for compassion. Mike Germano, and FNCB bank in general (since he told me he had no choice), are just not good people. I didn't ask for anything special, just a little bit of time around Christmas to begin paying them back, knowing I would pay them back fully in February. They didn't care. I wasn't a person to them, I was just a number. If you want a bank who loves you when things are going good for you but doesn't want to know you the moment you run into a little bit of trouble, then bank with FNCB. If you want a bank whose officials smile and shake your hand while they tell you one thing when they plan on doing something completely different, bank with FNCB. If you want a bank that acts in bad faith, choose FNCB. If you want to be treated like just an account number, and not a person, then bank with FNCB. --John I'm giving 2 stars because the tellers at my branch were always very friendly.
