South Jersey Federal Credit Union's Reviews
I gave them 1 star because I couldn't give 0. I have been a customer for over 10 years. I have a savings account, Christmas Club and a vacation club with them, all with direct deposit from my work. The Christmas club is paid out on October 1 of each year. My daughter is getting married on September 21. I asked to close the account effective September 19 to use the money for last minute expenses for the wedding. Customer service said the policy was a 10% penalty. I called back and tried to speak to a supervisor. After having to explain why I wanted a supervisor the rep again just said that there would be a 10% penalty and the supervisor wouldn't be able to change that. After waiting about 10 more minutes the supervisor got on the phone and simply told me that there would be a 10% penalty and that they can't waive it. My husband had a Christmas club with Newfield National Bank. He made the same request from them. It took 2 minutes to get it done and they waived their early withdrawal penalty. I have already stopped my direct deposits and will close all of my accounts. Horrible company to deal with!
Never answer the phone. Will be on hold for 20+ mins each time
Had a multi year run with good business and then a problem occurred and I did not nor did anyone else agree whatsoever with the way they handled it and we all thought they were very petty when it came they definitely could have handled it but just did not. Not a place I’m keeping any of my business at all. Update——several days later, found an adjustment made and my -stolen funds-returned as well as all else expected, This does Not change how any of us feel. Leaving the customer “Out” of funds that were expected to be available in the account is not the proper thing to do. The general consensus is that the bank being the bank would at the time Fraudulent activity is reported in person with paperwork filed supporting the claim that the bank would then take a position of aiming to help the customer by at the least offering to extend the customer what would be called a line of credit in the amount the customer claims is fraudulent moving of said funds with a contingency stating the customer will owe the funds in full returned if in fact the bank investigated and determined beyond a reasonable doubt that no fraud occurred. This would at least Keep The Customer Whole.
They don’t have telephone banking anymore ivy is permanently dead and they nickel and dime you to death. And there’s no accountability..They hide in that brand new building so they don’t have to speak to their patrons face to face and they will not give the information out on who to contact if you have a problem . Will call you maybe? Please whatever you do do not take the overdraft privileges on your Account. I had over $300 in my checking and for some reason when I made a payment over the phone to a credit card tried to take it out of my savings. Guess what I ended up having to pay $75 over draft fee. Never in the 20 some years I’ve been there i ever overdrafted my savings account. They said too bad. I guess that’s how they get their money they keep heat and cool that empty building .moving on .
I'm not a member anymore. Between not refunding overdraft fees for fraudulent purchases, to my card being declined in the most ridiculous of places, to both allowing me and refusing me overdraft protection at the same time, to what I'm about to describe, I can't bank with this institution anymore. I went into a branch the day before a trip out of the country and asked them to note me being out of CONUS for a week. When I arrived at my hotel the next night? Card declined. Even though the funds were available, my card was declined. The CU's anti-fraud hotline was a total joke, and outright said they couldn't and wouldn't do anything to help me. My boyfriend at the time put his card in just so we could get settled in for that night, but that experience was pretty damning for SJFCU. The next morning everything was resolved, but I was pretty miffed that my due diligence wound up being an exercise in wasted time. I now bank with Fulton and they've been pretty good to me. I have no intention of going back to SJFCU. I figured a credit union would care more about its members than this, but I guess not.
