I was attracted to this credit union because of decent deposit rates and the absence of fees on incoming transfers. I was tired of paying high fees at my old bank to receive wire transfers into my account. With a few weeks of opening the account, the interest rate dropped 14%. A few months later, a new charge started showing up on my incoming wire transfers. This was all disappointing, but what made it more upsetting was the total absence of customer service. When I tried to talk to someone at the bank -- the account officer who opened my account was never available -- I had to leave on the first two occasions after sitting there for 15-20 minutes (this in an office where employees outnumbered customers by about 5 to 1). The third time I was able to wait long enough to talk to an account officer, and he merely told me what I already knew -- my interest earnings went down and I was being dinged by a new fee. Rates go up and down, but I explained that I opened the account largely because I was told there would be no fee. He showed no interest in trying to solve the problem -- not even trying to connect me with a decision maker. I explained to him that I expected better service at a local credit union than I received at a money center bank, but I experienced just the opposite. Unlike at a big bank, there is no benefit to carrying a large balance because this credit union treats everyone equally bad. As I got up to leave, he glibly said, "Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help you." All I could say was, "You haven't helped me."

When we were members, they purposefully hid pending transactions from your available balance- predatory banking to try and get individuals to overdraft. I literally had a teller tell me to "use a checkbook register" to write down all my debit card transactions if I wanted an available balance. Also the fees- as another reviewer mentioned- are bananas. I will not pay to use my debit card as a debit card. They do this because they make more money off you hitting the credit button. EDIT TO POST BASED ON RESPONSE FROM UICCU: I have to disagree on the pending transactions (at least the way your systems worked at the time, perhaps you've upgraded). For one, I couldn't run my transaction as debit at the time because of your fees (but kudos to you for finally getting rid of that). But it was not always a merchant issue. One teller said to me "I can see MY pending transactions, because I'm an employee, but I can't see yours". That's the credit union hiding the transactions until it officially posts. The bank I switched to after UICCU shows me pending transactions immediately after swiping my card via their online banking/app. UICCU would take up to 5 days for transactions at the SAME merchant. The only exceptions should be gas stations, where a smaller amount is initially held (but I should still be able to SEE the smaller amount) and some online retailers who don't physically swipe my card.
