OneMain Financial's Reviews
This was the experience you wish for! My car took a huge plumit and I couldn’t afford to pay my bills AND pay for my car. I finally decided I had no choice but to look for a loan and found the possibility through One Main. I set the appointment and ended up missing it, due to an unforeseen circumstance, and Amy the branch manager called and was understanding to my situation and scheduled another appointment with me with care. Amy made this process so easy and unloaded such a huge weight off my shoulders! Trust me, I am HUGE on customer service and this was definitely the experience you need, especially in such a stressful situation!
On May 30th, after almost 2 years of regular, on time payments, I made an extra payment of $25. On June 3rd, my regular monthly payment was automatically made. On June 5th, I receive a message that my payment has been returned. I check my account online and see that on May 30th, the $25 payment had been made and returned, and on June 3rd the regular automatic payment had been made *twice* and returned once. I contact the branch and the first guy I speak to, Luis, is baffled. He contacts their tech department and calls me back to let me know the tech department claims I’d used an invalid account, my bank had refused payment, and that’s why the payment was returned... even though this is the same account I’ve been using for almost two years AND the same account they had successfully received payment from on June 3rd. Luis is polite but insists there is nothing he can do. I ask to speak to a supervisor. I am transferred to Marissa. Marissa is *incredibly* rude from the start. She tells me that I used a “fraudulent” account to make the payment on May 30th (again, this is the SAME account I’ve been using for the entire length of the loan, and the SAME account they took funds from for the normal payment on June 3rd). I try to explain the whole “this is the same account you guys took money out of 4 days later, clearly it’s real” thing, but Marissa feels it’s best to interrupt and talk over me every time I speak and keeps insisting the account I used on the 30th was fraudulent. Oh, and because I used a fraudulent account, I will need to find an alternate method of payment for the next 3 months, because that account was flagged by their system as fraudulent and I won’t be able to use it for the next 90 days. I ask to speak to whoever in their tech department says the account was invalid. Marissa claims doesn’t know who that is and also claims she is unable to put me in contact with anyone else who could verify what she is telling me. I ask to speak to Marissa’s supervisor. She initially tells me she doesn’t have one, then says her supervisor is not in the office. I ask for her supervisor’s name (which is Sarah), and her supervisor’s phone number. “She doesn’t have a phone number,” Marissa tells me. “She doesn’t have a phone number.” I repeat in disbelief. “No, she doesn’t have a phone number,” Marissa insists. I ask how they get in contact with the supervisor and Marissa claims they have to email the supervisor any time they need to contact her. I ask for the email address. Marissa refuses to give it to me, but agrees to put me on hold and email the supervisor to see if she can give me the email address. After 15+ minutes on hold (I’m sure she thought I’d hang up... I didn’t), Marissa come back on the line. “I tried calling my supervisor, but she didn’t answer,” Marissa tells me. “You called her?” I ask. “Yes, and she didn’t answer,” Marissa agrees. “That’s weird. Because you told me your supervisor didn’t have a phone number,” I point out. “Well, I can’t give it out,” Marissa tells me. “So you lied to me.” Marissa insists that she hadn’t lied to me, and that I’d “misunderstood.” She tells me that she will forward my information to their customer concerns department and someone will be in touch with me (it’s been a week and, shockingly, no one has been in contact with me), and she ends the call. Thankfully, there’s a happy end to this long, sordid tale. I was able to do some debt consolidation through my bank (which, incidentally, has an interest rate so much lower that even though the new loan is larger than the balance I owed OneMain, my new monthly payment is $70 less per month, AND it will be paid off more than a year earlier), and these jokers are now paid in full, and I’m done with them. Never again will I do business this company. To blatantly lie to me - and deny lying when I catch you in the lie - makes me not trust anything else you’ve said to me. So, good job, Marissa. Your lying has cost your company all the interest you would have made in the next 3 years.
