My favorite 2nd Hand store. Always a great selection of older pocket knives and rugged made in the USA old tools. I love the variety of the manual labor axes, shovels, cutters, choppers, hackers and old school heavy duty tool boxes. Best "Paw Through " inventory I have seen. Chicken at the Double Front and 30 minutes at Alderwood makes a great lunch break.
Everything is reasonably priced, and the prices certainly aren't set in stone. The owner is a good guy and knows his stock well. Often has interesting characters (old vets, crazy guys, big old boys, etc.) sitting around making conversation. Always got classic rock playing from the radio. My father once told me, "If you need a tool that you don't have, check Alderwood first and you'll spend a quarter what you would at a hardware store."
I stopped in today for the second time. Like the first, I wasn’t greeted as I came in and the man working continued his conversation with a friend. I wasn’t looking to spend money but my dad who was with me was going to spend quite a bit. This was before my boyfriend looked at an axe that was clearly on display. The man working shouted at him that it was a private item and not to be touched and went off for about 30 seconds. It was a completely unprofessional and over the top reaction, as the axe was clearly not marked as ‘private’. Even if this hadn’t happened, the prices are completely outrageous and the men working know little to nothing about antiques in general. I won’t be back.
Kind of a fascinating place to visit, with some interesting stuff, but also a lot of junk. The prices seem high, and the employees are rude at times. I won't be going back for a long time.
