Proceed With Caution. I WAS very happy with Academy Mortgage through the process of getting approved and securing my mortgage for my house. Agent was professional and helpful. HOWEVER, after closing, I was notified 2 weeks later that my mortgage was sold to Wells Fargo - an institution I don't bank with and frankly wouldn't ever work with given their reputation - without any warning or input on the matter. Now I'm getting the run around trying to enroll online so I can make my first payment. As I sit and wait on hold for a customer service rep to take my call I'm writing this review. I would consider this the very definition of bait and switch. If I wanted to do business with Wells Fargo I would have. I could just as easily worked with my current bank and saved myself a mountain of trouble and time. If you don't care who they sell your mortgage to, I'll say Academy is timely at getting appraisals and pre-approvals completed.
Mike was very helpful in my first time home buying experience. As a young woman I was very scared to enter this process. When I came to Mike about buying a home I didn't even know if it would be possible. He was very honest with me and I never felt like he was trying to push me into something I didn't 'need' or something that would be too much for me. Once I got pre-approved, Mike and his team worked so hard to get my paperwork in order...and there was a lot of it. They were never annoyed with me and answered all of my questions ASAP! I would write an email with a question and if I didn't have one within hours, I would have one within the day. I felt completely at ease and would recommend him and his team to any one of my family members.
Thanks to Academy Mortgage I was able to get a mortgage much earlier than expected. We moved to the USA six month ago and had no credit rating. The guys at Academy helped find a loan for me and kept me up-to-date with progress, chased me for documentation and closed the deal in time, I'm very grateful to them.
Chris Wilson at Academy was great. He communicated via email and phone when we needed it and helped make the whole process smooth. He also was patient with us as we analysed multiple scenarios to figure out what the right loan was for us. Setting it up so that we could close at our house after work was a nice touch too, making it easy to find time.
I honestly don't think these 5 star reviews were made by real customers. Academy is the worst with worst ratings. Everyone in talk to that was with academy has switched over including myself. Even had a claim and they were so inattentive. I even lost my contractor during my claim cause of academy's "claim process" so slow and unhelpful. I wish this helps someone else to not go through the headache I have.
